Ellen Hudgins, OTD, OTR/L
Dr. Hudgins is an occupational therapist at Progressive Therapy in our Farmville, Dillwyn, and Blackstone locations. She is the President and co-owner of Progressive Therapy. Ellen graduated cum laude from MCV with her undergraduate degree in occupational therapy. Ellen has worked in outpatient hand therapy and industrial medicine in Richmond, VA. She has attended multiple continuing education courses in hand therapy, shoulder rehab, and industrial medicine and is certified in Post-Concussion Management and IASTM. Ellen enjoys working with shoulder and hand-related injuries and has treated these conditions for the past 31 years. Ellen's other specialties include Functional Capacity Evaluations and Work Hardening Programs.
Ellen completed her post-professional clinical doctorate in Occupational Therapy from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions on December 19, 2014. Ellen has served as the Administration and Practice Management Special Interest Chairperson for the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA)and currently serves as the co-facilitator for the Community of Practice on Leadership for AOTA. Additionally, she has published articles regarding practice management and leadership for AOTA as well.
Additionally, Dr. Hudgins serves as an adjunct faculty member for Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions, teaching courses on leadership and serving as the elective track director in the Administration and Practice Management track. Ellen says, "I love getting to know the patient's story. It really is comforting to know your patients and their families. It gives me great pleasure to provide the highest quality of outpatient rehab in small towns. The patients appreciate all of your efforts in making them better." Ellen is married to Terry Hudgins; the co-owner of Progressive Therapy and they have two sons: Thomas and Jesse who attend Virginia Tech. They enjoy having a sustainable farm in Buckingham Country raising beef cattle and pastured chickens. Outside of Progressive Therapy and their farm, Ellen enjoys riding horses and showing in local dressage competitions.
